    this one will be challenging to separate out what's going on *only* in the photo, without being influenced by what we know of the history of ike & tina.

    this photo makes it look like ike is staring down someone offscreen, while tina is frozen in terror (of ike or his opponent, we may never know). so i'd vote that ike is in charge here.

    (is choosing 'ike' for a photo just a coincidence after this weekend's storm?)

    hatless is absolutely correct, in trying to separate what we now know (Ike was a wife beating sonofabitch) and Tina is going strong. In this photo, I have to agree that Ike is in charge – what item is he sticking in her back – a knife? Or is just the threat of his nasty ass breath upon her cheek enough to give her that look of terror?

    I have to go with Ike on this one. He has a determined look, like he is planning on what’s going to happen next. Tina looks more like someone who is enjoying the celebrity thing, maybe looking for people she knows, or smiling for the cameras.

    George Orwell famously wrote: “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.”

    Tina wrote the definitive memoir on their collaboration and is still respected and adored to this day. Ike died as a joke. She controls the present, and therefore the past (when this photo was taken) and the future.

    In a time-warping, mind-blowing, cosmic way, Tina is in charge.

    His face is impassive and he’s leaning down to her, that smile is fixed on her face, she’s braced.
    He holds the power in this picture.
    Is that the same as being in charge? Generally I guess it is.
