Circled dude just released an album with Okkervil River and we saw them play together last month. There's a documentary about him called "You're Gonna Miss Me" and it is some really crazy crap about the hazards of untreated schizophrenia combined with rockstar stuff.
That publicity shot looks like it was taken by a band member's mom or something.

The beads would get in the drummer's way and the bass player, well, he just forgets to wear his.

Bead-wearer on the top right is in the shadows (always a nod toward leadership in my book). It was clearly his idea to wear the beads and he's obviously not happy with the bead choices of his fellow bead-wearers. "This was once a cool idea and now look at us," he thinks to himself in exasperation.

Also, top right is one of the two band members who was allowed (per McGone) to look in the camera. Unlike the other camera-looker, he is wearing beads.

Circularly speaking, top right is in charge.

Leader: "Because 'Leader,' that's why."

Shia LaBeouf (back left): "I will beat you with a sock filled with quarters while you sleep! You hear me!?!"
